Pres. Manny Guballa signs feeding program Memorandum of Agreement (MOA)

A national feeding program initiated by the Community Development Fund of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile was picked up by the Rotary Club of New Manila East through the Quezon City government.  The target beneficiaries are grade one students of public schools in Quezon City.

In turn RC New Manila East partnered with 34 other Rotary clubs in the district, RC South Triangle included, to help implement this worthy project and to raise the required project counter fund.  On August 15, 2006 at the Bulwagan Amoranto, Quezon City Hall, a MOA signing took place.

The Rotary Club of South Triangle was paired with the Congressman R.A. Calalay Elementary School in Barangay Damayan.  The feeding program MOA was signed by Pres. Manny Guballa in behalf of RC South Triangle and Ms. Esperanza I. Caguioa, Principal of Cong. R.A. Calalay Elementary School.  Other signatories were Susan Oli of the National Dairy Authority, Pres. Chito Borromeo of RC New Manila East, Dr. Vicky Fuentes of Quezon City Division of City Schools and Gov. Danny Espinosa of R.I. District 3780.

Once started the feeding program will last for 120 days excluding Saturdays and Sundays.

Related to this feeding program, a separate MOA was signed among Senator Juan Ponce Enrile of the Philippine Senate, Mayor Sonny Belmonte of Quezon City and Pres. Chito Borromeo of RC New Manila East to facilitate the release of the fund.

Mayor Sonny Belmonte was the guest of honor and speaker for the event.

RCST donates computers to COW

The Rotary Club of South Triangle donated computers to the “Computer school-On-Wheels” (COW) last August 10, 2006 during its regular meeting.  Because of COW’s wider reach and mobility, RCST acknowledged the importance of the donation to help sustain the operation of COW and achieve its goal, that of providing free quality computer training on site to the less fortunate residents of Quezon City.

The computers came from the stock of the club when it was still doing its own computer literacy project.  PP Willy Chi donated two computer monitors and Rtn. Sonny Roa-Yu donated another computer.   In a simple hand over ceremony, Pres. Manny Guballa handed the computers to Mr. Bryan Asiatico who represented COW.

RCST holds tree planting activity at its adopted hectare in the La Mesa Watershed

Last August 5, 2006, the Rotary Club of South Triangle had a tree planting activity at its adopted hectare in the La Mesa Watershed area.  The RCST family led by Pres. Manny Guballa together with IPP BH Herrera-Dy, PN Cynthia Sotooka, PP Frank Abueva, VP Roy Rivero with his son’s family, PP Ricky Rios and spouse Ruby and friends braved the intermittent rains to push through with its continuing tree planting activity.

Before the actual planting activity, the group had to hike for 15 minutes in the La Mesa forest to the briefing area where group were informed about the reforestation project of the La Mesa Watershed area spearheaded by the Bantay Kalikasan Foundation of ABS-CBN Network.  The group was also taught the correct way to plant.

After the briefing and lecture which was done by Mr. Valerio Mendoza, a watershed management specialist, the group was led to the planting area.  It was another good 20-minute hike from briefing area.  Everybody especially the children enjoyed planting under intermittent rain condition and mud.

PP Edcel Lagman for Small Families

Last July 6, 2006, Governor Danny Espinosa in his speech before the Rotary Club of South Triangle’s 15th Induction Ceremony at the Restaurant 9501 located at the penthouse of the ELJ Tower in the ABS-CBN compound, reiterated this Rotary year’s emphases on water management, literacy, health and hunger and the family of Rotary.  Gov. Danny said that RCST had addressed all in its plans and objectives but challenged the club to do more.  Convinced that the club can achieve its goals and more, he gave the Rotary Club of South Triangle a grade of EXCELLENT!

In response, Past President Edcel Lagman fully agreed with Gov. Danny on the priorities this Rotary year.  Past President Edcel in particular asked Rotarians to promote his advocacy in the Philippine Congress for Filipinos to have small families as a means to improve health and to help solve the hunger problem in the Philippines.

District Induction of Gov. Danny a big success!

The District Induction of Gov. Danny Espinosa and his team at the Crossroad 77 Convention Center was a big success!

Hosted by the Rotary Club of Biak-na-Bato, the program started early at 4PM and ended at a bit pass 7PM. Dinner and fellowship followed. The dinner entertainment was a mini "West Side Story" musicale with no less than Ms. Isay Alvarez, Robert Seña and Melissa Uy leading the cast. A very refreshing innovation!

After dinner, there was non-stop dancing with music provided by the "Route 70 Band". Pres.-elect Cynthia Sotooka and daughter Sam enjoyed every minute of it as they danced the night away.

Cheers to IPP BH Herrera-Dy who just arrived from Taipei to receive an award for the "Computer school On Wheels" project and then whized directly to the district induction to give support Gov. Danny and Pres. Manny Guballa.

PP Edcel Lagman, PP Willy Chi, IPP BH Herrera-Dy, PP Ricky Rios and PSec. Sylvia Lazo are among the many members of Gov. Danny D-3780 team. Pres. Manny Guballa is among the "Leader" presidents of D-3780.

Also present were PP Ben Roxas, PP Butch Arroyo, PSec. Alvin Montano and spouse Flor Guballa.
