Computer school-On-Wheels gets an award in Taiwan

Immediate Past Pres. BH Herrera-Dy went to Taiwan last June 28, 2006 to receive the “BEST PRACTICE IN BRIDGING THE DIGITAL DIVIDE IN THE PHILIPPINES” award for the Computer school-On-Wheels project (COW).  The award was given by the APEC Digital Opportunities Center at the World Trade Center in Taipei.

The APEC Digital Opportunities Center in partnership with the Bagong Henerasyon Foundation, Inc. of IPP BH launched last May 2, 2006 the ADOC e-Care Center in Barangay Nayon Kaunlaran.  The ADOC e-Care Center has 8 computers especially designed to give computer training for the disabled.  The center is located at the corner of West Avenue and Del Monte Street.

RCST Club Awards Night and Turnover Ceremony

The Rotary Club of South Triangle held its annual club awards night and turnover ceremonies at the Redwood Restaurant last June 22, 2006.

President BH Herrera-Dy was a picture of success and relief as she awarded most of the clubs members and the RCST family.

PP Xyrus Lanot got a especial award for introducing Pres. BH to the wonderful world of Rotary.  Pres.-Nominee Cynthia Sotooka was awarded the "Fisher of Men" award for having sponsored the most number of new members.  Pres.-Elect Manny Guballa was awarded the most outstanding club officer.

After the awarding ceremonies, the changeover of leadership took place.  Pres. BH handed over the gong and gavel to Pres. Manny as symbol of the transfer of leadership and responsibilities in leading the club.  The simple turnover ceremony was witnessed by Dist. Gov. Benjie Bacarro, Incoming Gov. Danny Espinosa, Pres. Manny's spouse Flor, Pres. BH's spouse Allan and the rest of the RCST family.

Baguio City Family Outing

Last June 16, 2006 members of the RCST family started to troop to Baguio City for its much needed family vacation break.  PTreas. Roy Rivero and spouse Nene hosted the group at the Navy Base.  The 3 days and 2 nights break was spent leisurely.  Some went trekking, horse back riding, played golf, shopping and nature tripping.

Of course there were plenty of food and drinks to keep the fellowship going.

District Awards Night

The Rotary International District 3780 held its District Awards Night at the Wack Wack Golf Club House last June 2, 2006 with RC Loyola Heights hosting the affair.

RCST was recognized as the Best Rotary Club on Women's Concern.  RCST was a nominee Best Rotary Club on Service to New Generations.  AG Willy Chi, PP Ricky Rios, PP Butch Arroyo and Pres. BH Herrera received plaque of appreciation.

Others present were Pres.-Elect Manny Guballa, Pres.-Nominee Cynthia Sotooka, PP Ray Achacoso, Rtn Ella Pineda, PP Ben Roxas, PP Frank Abueva and Pres. BH's spouse Allan.

Annual Operation "Tuli"

The Rotary Club of South Triangle held its annual operation 'tuli' last May 28, 2006 at the new building of Barangay South Triangle.  A total of 25 patients were recipient to this noble undertaking.  A low turnout as it was initially expected to be which is in the figure of 150 patients.

Providing support were volunteer doctors from Councilor Ariel Inton's medical team, Kester-Grant nursing students, the Rotaract Club of South Triangle, the Barangay South Triangle health workers, spouses of RCST members, medicines and surgical equipments from the Bagong Henerasyon Foundation and medicines from Pfizer.

RCST holds Planning Session for Rotary Year 2006-2007 at Tagaytay City

Last May 13, 2006, RCST led by Pres.-Elect Manny Guballa held its planning session in Tagaytay City at the vacation residence of Pres. BH Herrera-Dy’s family.  Even at the height of typhoon Caloy, RCST members braved the strong winds to travel to Tagaytay for the planning session.  Present aside from PE Manny and Pres. BH were PP Xyrus Lanot, PP Butch Arroyo, PN Cynthia Sotooka, Rtn. Ella Pineda, Rtn. Sonny Roa-Yu, PP Ray Achacoso, PP Ricky Rios, Dir. Bernie Cruz, VP Flor Ofrecio and PP Ben Roxas.

Though there was a brownout in the morning until early afternoon, it did not stop Pres. Manny in convening the planning session.  With the power of the laptop of Pres. BH, PE Manny presented the district activities for next year so that the club may be aware when to schedule its activities.  With the many activities in the district and in the club, conflicts were not avoided.  It was decided to give priorities to club activities.

Per PE Manny, next year’s thrust would be on membership growth and development.  During last week’s meeting, it was agreed upon to start the process as soon as possible since this endeavor is a continuing development program.

A part 2 of the planning session is expected in June to finalize the plans for next Rotary year.  This early expect another focused Rotary year next year as Pres.-Elect Manny prepares to “Lead the Way”.

3rd Inter-City Meeting for the GSE Team from Australia

RCST hosted the very successful 3rd Inter-City District Meeting last Thursday, April 20, 2006 at the Party Central in Barangay South Triangle together the other T-Th-S clubs.  It was the most attended among the three inter-city meetings held for the GSE Team from Australia headed by PP Jacquie Herron, team leader and members Marie Terese, Sacha Howlett, Shalini Cooray and Greg Fisher.

The affair was very festive since all were encourage come in their very colorful Hawaiian costumes.

Lead by its President, Councilor BH Herrera-Dy, the other RCST members that were around were PP Xyrus Lanot and spouse Vangie, PE Manny Guballa, PN Cynthia Sotooka, PP Frank Abueva, Rtn. Bimbo Baldo, AG Willy Chi.

The 2nd Edcel C. Lagman Golf Tournament

Last April 6, 2006 the Rotary Club of South Triangle held its annual golf tournament, the 2nd Congressman Edcel C. Lagman Cup, at the Club Intramuros Golf Course.  No less than Governor Benjie Bacorro, Gov-Elect Danny Espinosa, IPP Edcel Lagman and Pres. BH Herrera-Dy doing the ceremonial tee.

A total of 68 players were around to enjoy the game of golf and the tournament. 

The awarding and fellowship followed in the early evening at the New Dynasty Chinese Restaurant.  IPP Edcel Lagman gave a short opening remarks while Pres. BH Herrera-Dy thanking all who participated and supported the tournament in her closing remarks.

All actually went home winning at least one raffle item and lots of giveaways.

RCST at the DISCON 2006

The District Conference (DISCON 2006) was held at the Manila Hotel last March 31 and April 1, 2006.  The Rotary Club of South Triangle had special participation in the dance number and project presentation.  Pres. BH Herrera-Dy and Pres.-Elect Cynthia Sotooka were part of the dance number compose of selected club presidents and pres.-elect.  PP Ricky Rios presented the Club's Vocational Service signature project, the Computer school On Wheels fondly called COW, during the "break out" session for vocational service?

Also present during the DISCON were PP Willy Chi, Rtn. Bimbo Baldo, Dir. Bernie Cruz, PN Manny Guballa.

RCST 1st host to the Australian GSE Team

On March 27, 2006, the Rotary Club of South Triangle was the first day host to the Group Study Exchange (GSE) team from Australia.  It started with a visit at the Quezon City Hall with no less than the Honorable Mayor of Quezon City, Mayor Feliciano "SB" Belmonte, welcoming and presenting them a symbolic key to the city.  This was followed by a sumptuous Filipino breakfast.  Team then visited the historic Batasang Pambansa where the Philippine Congress hold their sessions.  IPP Congressman Edcel Lagman and PP Ray Achacoso were at hand to welcome the group and toured them.  After lunch, the group freshened up at PDG Hermy Jarin's place then proceeded for the inter-city meeting which RCST also co-hosted.
